Semen Detection - FAQ's
Q. What is Semen Detection testing?
A. Semen detection tests for the presence of seminal fluid form the ejaculation of a human male in a suspicious stain.
Q. Who could benefit from this type of testing?
A. The Semen Detection test is designed for anyone who has reason to be concerned, personally and legally, with the presence of semen on an item. Some examples include infidelity, underage sexual interactions, non-consensual sexual interactions, sexual assault.
Q. Can I use this testing in court?
A. Dr. Bennett offers court admissible testing and can also serve as an Expert Witness if the case required.
Q. If the suspicious stain is semen, can you tell me who it came from?
A. While there are many places that offer the ability to simply confirm the presence of sperm in the semen, Dr. Bennett is also able to compare the DNA of the sperm, if present, to a male. This would require the male suspect to consent to a DNA test, or a sample of his DNA provided to Dr. Bennett in some fashion.
Q. Can you tell me how long ago the suspicious stain was made?
A. Typically not. DNA can last a very long time.
Q. Can the sample be tested for the presence of Sexually Transmitted Diseases?
A. Typically not. Most STD tests require a blood specimen.
Q. If the stain is not semen, could it be vaginal fluid and is there a way to test that?
A. We're working on that !
