Lab Service: Genetic Testing

Genetic testing looks at your genes, which are found in your DNA, to analyze if any unusual changes may lead to a sickness, like cancer. This test can help spot genetic mutations, which give you a higher risk of developing an illness than the general population. The results that come from genetic testing can help you and your doctor make more informed medical decisions and find more effective treatments that can lower your risk of developing a disease. In addition to cancers, we can test for other genetic diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, and more.

Testing Process:

Step One: Dr. Bennett will sit down with you to complete a questionnaire of your medical history and the history of cancer (if any) within your family.

Step Two: There are three different ways to collect DNA: blood, saliva, or a buccal swab (which collects buccal cells from the inside of your cheek). Depending on your collection kit, Dr. Bennett will either draw your blood, collect your saliva, or swab your mouth. This is done so your DNA can be analyzed for gene mutations.

Step Three: When the testing is complete, Dr. Bennett will offer for you to come in to go over the results and provide genetic counseling.
